Gregg watched Jack closely as he related the events the took place in the marketplace…when he had finished, Jack scratched his head, then replied, “So you willing became my hostage and then when I fainted, you willing carried me up here, instead of running away?”
“Well, I didn’t carry you up myself. I arranged to have you carried up.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. I’m in good terms with the General,” Gregg replied. Seeing Jack tense, he added. “Don’t worry, I put in a good word for you?”
“How so?”
“I told the General what you told me, and we both came to the conclusion that what you said took place, really happened. However, we need to Jill to confirm this herself.”
‘Well, that’s the kicker isn’t,” Jack snarled. “Jill not here to confirm my story.”
“But if you were to go and bring her back, then that would look good on you, wouldn’t it?” Gregg asked. “That is afterall what you set out to do, right?”
“Yeah, you’re right about that part,” Jack replied slowly, thinking of what to do next. “Now let’s say I believe you, and don’t assume I do. Then this would have to be the craziest twist of fate, that I have ever heard of.”
“I’m telling you the truth. Why would I lie?”
“Why indeed,” Jack replied. “Though, I suppose it doesn’t matter now. I need someone to give a first-hand account of Jill’s crimes and you Greggy boy are the lucky one.”
“Wait, you’re asking me to come with you.”
“Well, I wasn’t exactly asking,” Jack replied, waving the gun at Gregg. “but let’s go with that, since it sounds nicer.”
Gregg thought for a moment, then replied, “Okay let’s do this.”
