Jill couldn’t believe how stupid she was. She, should have checked to make sure Jack was really out of ammunition. Though to do so, would’ve shown her hand and that was something that Jill was unwilling to do. ‘So then what could I have done?’ Jill thought to herself. ‘Nothing, except fib and hope for the best…. “But perhaps it’s not to late,” Jill mussed out loud. Quickly a desperate plan began to form in her mind, and as Jill stepped out of the portal, she knew what she had to do.
As expected, there were armed security waiting for her as she stepped out of the portal. However, before she could do anything, Jack was right behind her, shoving the pistol into her back. Seeing the guards moving forward, Jack barked, “Not a step closer, or the good doctor gets it.”
“Um, actually I’m a scientist,” Jill replied. “Not that you would know the difference.”
“A fraud more likely.” Jack replied. “Either way it doesn’t matter. I’m sure they know what I mean.”
“Sir,” One of the guards replied. “We have orders to take you to the General.”
“Well, then take us to the General.” Jack replied. “But first, I will need you to lose all of your gear.”
“I’m afraid, we can’t do that.” The guard began…but Jill cut him off. “Just check with the General.” She replied. “I’m sure that he would be more than accommodating to these terms.”
Frowning, the guard spoke quietly into the wire on his collar. A few seconds later, he replied… “Yes sir, “
Looking up at Jack, he said, “the General has agreed to your terms. We are to leave our gear here and lead you up to his office. Additionally, all the security up to that point has been ordered to stand down. I hope that the measures are acceptable.”
They are,” Jack replied. “Lead the way.”
