Staggering back, Turner fell backwards his body hitting the ground with a thump. Walking over, Jill bent over him. His body twitched and Jill shot him again, exploding his left cheek all over the road. “You know why, this had to happen, right?” Jill asked, as she watched Turner’s blood, spill out from behind him. “I can’t risk Jack knowing the truth. If he found out, then he would no longer be of any use to us.”
“If I found out what?” Jack asked, coming up behind Jill.
“Nothing, nothing at all.”
“Uh Huh.” Jack replied. “What happened here?”
“Your prisoner tried to attack me.” Jill replied. “I took him down, the only way I knew how. Were you able to find a way home?”
“Yes, with the help of Moxie,”
“Okay then, let’s go home.”
“First give me back my gun.”
“Why, you don’t trust me?” Jill laughed as she slid the magazine out of the chamber, checked the clip, before sliding it back in again. “It looks like you only have one bullet left. I think I will hold onto it for safe keeping.”
“Now who’s the one who is not showing trust,” Jack growled. “You know what happens when you piss me off.”
“Of course, I don’t trust you.” Jill snapped. “You were the one who shoved me into the portal, all because you were mad at me.”
“You got me there,” Jack replied. “I’ll tell you what. How about you keep the bullet and I keep the gun, in that way neither person has an advantage over the other.”
“I don’t know…” Jill began.
“Look you want to go back, right? All I’m asking is for you too meet me in the middle. If it helps, I’ll push you again.”
“Don’t you dare,” Jill snapped, then smiled. “Fine Jack, I will give you back the gun, though I don’t know what good it will be to you with no bullets.”
“Consider it more of a memento,” Jack replied, taking the pistol out of Jill’s outstretched hand. “Shall we go?”
“Yes, please. This place gives me the creeps.”
“I don’t know, I kind of like it.”
“You would Jack.
