Journal Entry 396
12/24/2021
Well tomorrow is Christmas, though if I want to get technical- in thirty-six minutes it will be Christmas day- anyway, it will be a busy chaotic day. One filled with exhausting cheer and joy.
Here I stifle a yawn,” Oh excuse me. I must be more tired than I thought. Let me finish these last few thoughts and then I will be off to bed – without sugar plums dancing in my head-since I’m a diabetic.”
“Wait what was I talking about,” as I stifle another yawn. “Oh yeah, that’s right, I need to finish these last few lines, before heading to bed.”
“You know, it gets me thinking about something I heard the other day.” Here I pause scratching my head. “Oh yeah, that’s right (yes it just occurred to me, that I repeated myself…but hey, it’s not that big of a deal, right), it was about pushing and pushing and worrying about what lies ahead, instead of taking everyday at a time. Now, I know that I personally struggle with this and I have to keep on reminding myself that it is pointless to worry about what I can’t control. Yes, there is misery and suffering in everyday life. This is life-but it is not all that life is about. The best advice I can give someone, including myself, is to live for today. Yes, plan for the future, but live for today.
Now you may be saying to yourself, this is all fine and dandy- that’s not a word you hear very often is it- but how am I supposed to remind myself of this every day?
Well, how I solved this problem is that I wrote out a reminder and posted it on my writing wall. Written below, is the post that I read to myself every time I write,
Today is today. Today is not yesterday, nor is it tomorrow. Today is today, until it transfers over to tomorrow-but then it will still be today. Live life like this. Plan for the future, but take everyday as if it were today. Learn from the past, implying the lessons you have learned. But live for today, not yesterday. Live life like this and perhaps you may find peace.
When I first started writing tonight, this was not what I planned on writing about. But in the end, this is what came out. I feel that someone needed to hear this. Perhaps it was me. Perhaps I needed to hear this again. Either way, do with it what you will. It is now 12:08 am, and I do need to wrap this up and go to bed. So, everyone have a blessed Merry Christmas and God willing, I will be posting another blog entry, next week.
Sincerely,
Richard Polk
